The religious leaders were confident that they were first in God's kingdom because of their piety and righteousness. Jesus, however, 'attacked' them because they failed to walk the talk so they were last in God's kingdom. The tax collectors, sinners and prostitutes were entering the kingdom because they repented in response to the messages of John the Baptist and Jesus. Thus the last became first. The grounds in the parable refers to one's heart. In Jonah 4, God showed His grace and mercy to Jonah. God let Jonah experienced discomfort, to teach Jonah about Him. Today, God may let us experience discomfort or suffering, not to punish us, but, to lead us to Him. In the mercy and grace of the LORD, Jonah was again sent to the city of Nineveh to proclaim the judgment the LORD will bring in 40 days.  The city repented! In our days, One greater than Jonah has come! He too has come to proclaim the rule of God.  Would we, like the Ninevites, respond in repentance, submitting to the Lordship of Jesus Christ? John the Baptists began to doubt Jesus was the Messiah despite earlier being so sure. This was because Jesus did not meet John's Messianic expectations. To people who are tempted to fall away because Jesus does not meet their expectations Jesus says, as he said to John, "Blessed is the man (and woman) who does not fall away on account of me." Then there is Jesus' gracious invitation to come to him to find rest, rest for our souls.

Jesus sends out the 12 disciples on their mission to the towns of Israel. The mission will be marked by rejection and persecution, and Jesus encourages his disciples with the providential care of God. The disciples’ mission in turn challenges us to the identity of Jesus and provides reflection for our discipleship as we follow Him.

Jonah ran away from God. But, God did not give up on him. Through disaster, God brought Jonah back to Him. Was God forcing Jonah to return to Him? Why did God orchestrate the event? God did not need to do so, but, because of His love and mercy, He wanted Jonah to come back to Him. Today, God has also prepare for us salvation, awaiting for us to go back to Him. 约拿逃离神的面。神藉着灾难，使约拿回到祂面前。为何神要这么做呢？因为神是有慈爱和怜悯，他不愿意约拿离开生命的源头。同样的，今天，神也为我们预备了救恩，等待我们回到祂那里去。

After Jesus healed a man with withered hand and casted out demon from a blind and mute man, some scribes and Pharisees asked Jesus to show them miracles.
